Experimental Typography Workshop

I created this Experimental Typography workshop as a way for students to experiment with composition using type, paper texture, and other forms of mark-making. It provides students with an outlet to discover new methods of hand manipulation of typography.

The workshop goes as follows:

First, make a list of verbs, of things you can do to a piece of paper, ie. cut, tear, crumple, fold, scribble. Next, prepare a typography packet. Include some words if it pertains to your objective. Next, cut words/letters/characters out of the typography packet. Collage several different compositions. While doing so, apply the list of verbs to the paper scraps being collaged. For example, tear paper, crumple up paper, stomp on paper, scribble over the composition. Finally, scan each composition and turn them into posters and/or animations.
